Rhyming Dust Bunnies

I have been on a hunt lately to find great picture books to teach concepts  in our reading series.  I came across Rhyming Dust Bunnies at our book fair and I have been waiting for the perfect time to use it.  This week our focus is rhyming words...and this book was perfect, not to mention super cute.
I made a quick trip to Jo-Ann's and got myself some glitter, google eyes, and bright foam sheets.  I was fast at work to make these cute little rhyming guys.  I used them when reading the book and also for our class chart.

When reading the story I stopped after every dust bunny said, "Hey! What rhymes with _____?"  The kids named off all of the words that rhymed with the word given. I charted them on the chart above and we underlined the endings to show that most rhyming words have the same endings.  The part they loved the most came after the read-aloud.  They got to make their own dust bunnies!  I let them pick the word to rhyme.  This was a pretty simple and smooth lesson and my kids loved it!!!  Here are a couple of their finished products.  Do you like that capital A in car???  That drives me bonkers.

Snag a free template for your own dust bunnies below.
